Martin Scorsese is one of the most prolific and acclaimed filmmakers in the history of cinema and has become a legend in his own time. Joe Russo, one half of the Russo Brothers directing team along with his brother Anthony, hold the highest box office numbers with Marvel films including Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
A A few years agoScorsese was rather critical of Marvel for stifling films with their release schedule, feeling that it was pushing too many mid-budget features out of theaters.
It’s something fans of both directors still talk about, almost ad nauseam. Over the weekend, Russo finally responded to this Tiktok in response to Scorsese and his dog, Oscar, a playful and quick video with his dog, Box Office, posted by the Oscar winner’s daughter, Francesca.
“Oh look, he has a schnauzer! I love schnauzers. And his name is Oscar. That’s really cute,” Russo said in his video. “Okay, come on, box office.”
The playful jab has many film writers and industry insiders the wrong way around, calling Russo “petty”. The response video comes as Scorsese’s Killers of the Moon is losing the battle for box office supremacy and at the center of controversy for the duration of the film.
“Joe Russo took hundreds of millions of dollars from Netflix to make whatever he wanted, and he ended up with… The Gray Man,” tweeted Jason DiMarco, Toonami co-founder and VP of action and animation at Warner Bros. It has been deleted.
Russ first came on the scene 20 years ago with the pilot of Fox’s Arrested Development, eventually directing and producing episodes of NBC’s Community. From there, they had minor hits until Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Agent Carter. By directing three of the MCU’s biggest films: Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, they became Marvel’s main studio.
