Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi is working on a Star Wars movie as one of his many projects in development, and now he’s given another update on how the film is being made.
talk to Business InsiderWaititi said the Star Wars movie is “still in the water.” He added that the film remains in the writing stage now that Waititi is allowed to return to work after the WGA strike ends.
In May, Waititi said his Star Wars film was still in the early stages of development, adding that he had a “very good idea for it.” Waititi has previously said that his Star Wars film, like many of his films, has an element of honesty. He said of the 2021 film, “I like to trick the viewer into thinking, ‘Hey, this is it,’ and then they’re like, ‘Damn, you made me feel something!’
In April of this year, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that Waititi’s Star Wars film would take a while to come to fruition because he was writing the script himself.
He really doesn’t want to bring others into the process and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So we want to protect that and that’s what he’s doing. But we will do it. One day, Kennedy said.
While Waititi’s Star Wars movie may not be available anytime soon, a new Star Wars movie bringing back Daisy Ridley as Rey is coming. It will be followed by new Star Wars films from Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny director James Mangold and The Mandalorian’s Dave Filoni.
