Super Mario RPG – Shipwreck puzzle answers guide

The puzzle of Super Mario RPG Sunken Ship is quite infamous. This is because there are six tasks you must complete to collect clues. Once you have them, you should be able to find the correct password to open the door. Here is our guide to help you solve all the shipwreck puzzles in Super Mario RPG.

How to solve all the shipwreck puzzles in Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG Sunken Ship puzzles can be found on the lower decks of the dungeon. Once you reach it, you will see several rooms along a corridor, and these rooms are guarded by enemies that you must defeat. Mobs range from ghosts and skeletons to floating jellyfish. We recommend having Malo in your party as Thunderbolt deals a lot of damage to enemies in this area.

Enemy groups guard the puzzle rooms.

upper corridor

Shipwreck Puzzle #1: Block Pillar

The first puzzle room in this corridor has a Koopa Paratroopa flying around a pillar made of blocks. You will also notice a green switch in the air. The goal is to move under the Koopa Paratropa to accidentally knock the ball and make it fall on the switch.

Clue #1: Indigo Adventurer’s Note: There is an “S” in the word.

Shipwreck Puzzle #2: Springs

Inside the second room, you’ll see three springs that move sideways, and there are blocks that you can hit to stop them. We suggest starting from the leftmost block, which you have to jump and hit when you reach the halfway point. From there hit the other two blocks making sure there is enough space between them. If you did it right, a metal ball will bounce off all three springs and land on the switch at the end.

Clue #2: Indigo Jr. Adventurer’s Note: “Found on the ocean floor.”

Shipwreck puzzle #3: 3D maze

3D Maze is the most confusing shipwreck puzzle RPG Super Mario. This is due to the layout of the room, which has several blocks. You must navigate this area without seeing your character. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Enter the 3D maze through the narrow passage and go back to the right. Jump when you hit an obstacle at the bottom.
  • This should take you to the middle area, although you won’t be able to see Mario. Now you need to jump to the left which will cause you to exit the structure.
  • From there, go to the lower right area and jump onto the ledge. Continue rolling backwards and jumping inside the structure.
  • Once you reach the top, step on the plate to get the next clue.

Clue #3: Note from the second expedition team: “It has two vowels.”

Even if you can’t see Mario (left), you have to go around the 3D maze. You will then reach the outer (right) section, which then leads to the top.

Down the hall

Shipwreck Puzzle #4: Coins

Go down the corridor and enter the first door on your left. Inside, you’ll find a coin that spawns more coins as you move around the room. The goal is to follow it, all while picking up the coins that appear. Don’t take too long because the new coins will also disappear and don’t accidentally grab the initial coin. Once the initial coin is finished, you can pick it up to complete the task.

Clue #4: Onyx’s search party notes: “Very valuable.”

Shipwreck puzzle #5: Ball

In the next room, you will notice four blocks. The goal here is to jump and hit the leftmost block which will make the ball fire. Then you have to move under the three remaining blocks in a row, jumping as the cannonball is under them. Ideally, you should stand under the shadow of the block when jumping. If you did it right, the cannonball will hit each block and give you another clue.

Clue number 5: 4th research crew note: “It’s actually ‘them’.”

Shipwreck Puzzle #6: Barrel and Floor Panel

The room at the end of the corridor has a save point and two floor screens. First, you want to jump on the stack of barrels to the right and cause one of them to fall. Then jump on the barrel on the ground so it moves to the left. When the barrel is on the plate, step on the other barrel to unlock the door.

As an aside, you may have noticed that based on all the clues and letters, both “pearls” and “corals” seem to be acceptable answers. Both objects are found deep in the ocean and are very valuable. However, only “Pearls” will work as a password. Attempting to spell “corals” does not unlock the door.
