One Piece is getting an anime remake from Behind Spy X Family Studio

There are hundreds of episodes of One Piece anime to watch, and if that sounds scary, then the good news is that you can look forward to future remakes of the anime series. Netflix has revealed that Spy X Family animator Studio Witt will produce the remake, currently titled The One Piece. The project covers the East Blue saga that first aired over 20 years ago, which ran for 100 chapters in the manga and 61 episodes in the original anime adaptation.

While not confirmed, it’s possible that filler content will not be present in the Wit adaptation. Anime adaptations usually catch up to weekly manga seasons very quickly, forcing studios to maintain momentum with made-for-TV story arcs while manga artists produce new content. Most of the time, filler arcs are poorly received and easily forgotten. One Piece has had its share of filler over the decades, with infamous examples being Battle Island, Ice Hunter, and Foxy’s Return arcs.

There have been a few anime remakes in the past, and if you’re looking for great series that nail the look and feel of the manga, they’re based on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Hellsing Ultimate, and Blade of the Immortal. The excellent reboot of 2023 has also been a good year for One Piece, as the current anime Wano Arc has been critically acclaimed, while the Netflix live-action adaptation has been a huge success.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, also announced that the second season of One Piece is in the early stages of development, and once again, Inaki Godoi will be playing the role of Monkey D. Luffy, McNeo as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Monkey. Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
