Lego Fortnite has attracted millions of players since its launch a week ago, but the game is still in its early stages. It’s shockingly polished for an all-new game in 2023, but it’s also kind of a poor overall experience right now, with no obstacles to a long-term endgame. There’s a lot to enjoy here, but to what end?
Right now, it’s all about pushing the limits of what Lego Fortnite can do in its current state. And as it stands now, one of the biggest concerns is travel – it takes a long time to get locations, and it’s just as inconvenient to have to carry resources across the map with only your personal inventory for storage. There is no fast travel, and so the best form of travel offered officially by the game is a glider, which gets you up to speed, but doesn’t require moving resources efficiently.

That’s why many people in sandbox mode have been trying to find a way to transport materials in a vehicle that is cobbled together from the parts that the game offers. And some people have really succeeded in engineering – there are already working planes, trains and cars all over YouTube. But all of them are not suitable for survival mode due to the durability factor in some parts. Many of these vehicles simply break down after any significant use in survival mode as parts wear out.
In real life, for example, we do regular maintenance on a commuter train to address this problem, but there’s no way to do that in Lego Fortnite. So, in other words, there are no guarantees for any of these builds, because the game wasn’t built for these things. At least not now.

So I prefer this quick and compact design from YouTuber Elexzo. However, his design did not include a chest, so you will have to manage that aspect of the design. Just be careful when doing this – the train’s imbalance will cause it to derail.

People discovered cars first, and my favorite design so far is this very intricate design from YouTuber Perfect Score – I especially like it because it has a steering wheel concept that can also be applied to aerial vehicles. This means that building this is a good way to learn some of the main features of Lego Fortnite.
Keep in mind while saying this that everyone is already feeling their way through these vehicle designs, so feel free to experiment if you’re inspired. Nobody really knows how to build a car in Lego Fortnite yet. Instead, it’s more like everyone is competing to invent them, and it’s too early to crown winners. In time, a proper fast travel system will probably come to Lego Fortnite, but before then — and even after — people will enjoy manipulating the many tools at their disposal.
