Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is getting an even earlier release date

The newest movie in the Ghostbusters series, Frozen Empire, will hit theaters a little earlier than expected. Sony announced that the film will be extended by one week and will now be shown in both IMAX and regular theaters on March 22nd.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire features two generations of hunters teaming up for the first time to take on an all-new threat and save the world from the second Ice Age. Director Gil Kenan, who wrote the script with Jason Reitman, has said he’s ready for the next generation of Ghostbusters stories.

“I remember there was a moment in the first half of the morning of directing one of the big scenes where I looked at the monitor and caught myself with the biggest grin I’ve ever had,” says Kennan. “I finally found myself calling out ‘action!’ and ‘cut!’ to some of my very favorite characters in movies, working on a big cinematic scale on something I really cared about. I’m trying to keep that feeling. I do. Even now, when I finish the film, I have it.”

This will be the first Ghostbusters movie to be released in the spring as the first three movies were released in the summer and Ghostbusters: Afterlife was released in November.

The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts.
