Pixar’s decision to release these films to cinemas indicates a strategic change in their release strategy. Speaking to Variety, Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter acknowledged streaming’s impact on audience habits as a “combined blessing” that “trained” moviegoers to use streaming over theatrical experiences.
“It’s more expensive for a family of four to go to the theater when they know they can wait for it to appear on the platform,” said the doctor. “We’re trying to make sure people don’t see a lot of things that you’re missing out on by not seeing it on the big screen.
