Imagine this: it’s 2045 and you want to show your future partner/child/friend your favorite game in 2023, Alan Wake 2. old console and boot it once more. But as you do, you realize that you don’t have Alan Wake 2 installed on your system. And PlayStation Store no longer supports PlayStation 5. Digital game sales have been on the rise for years, while publishers have simultaneously emphasized that the future and growth of the video game industry lies in the subscription market. However, for this to happen, people have to agree to one small thing: not actually owning the game.

This week, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown came out and it’s incredible. But this is not the only thing that Ubisoft introduced. The publisher has taken over its subscription service and renamed it Ubisoft+, while also changing the offering. Ubisoft’s director of subscriptions, Philip Tremblay, spoke to gamesindustry.biz to talk about the changes, but there was one choice quote that definitely pissed some off. Tremblay said gamers should get comfortable with not having their games.
